While incumbent Wanita chief Tan Lian Hoe retains her post without any contest, it will be a straight fight in for the post of Gerakan national youth chief in the coming party polls.

NONETwo outspoken youth leaders Oh Tong Keong (right in photo) from Penang and Tan Keng Liang of Kedah have been nominated as candidates for the top Youth wing post.

Oh, who is the incumbent national deputy youth deputy, said while he is seeking the higher post, he has formed a team to contest all of the other Youth wing posts.

Meanwhile, Tan, too claimed to have formed a team, but refused to reveal his team members.

"I have a team but I'm not going to reveal it," he told reporters at Menara PGRM in Kuala Lumpur today.

The Kedah youth chief said that he feared an "MCA style" faction splinter should he reveal his “team”.

Gerakan election committee chairperson Chin Fook Weng then held a press conference to announce there would be 1,014 delegates to vote for 18 wanita committee members from among 26 candidates.

He said there would be 900 delegates to vote for the youth wing.

Chin had also stressed that the Gerakan party polls was a “friendly match”, and urged the candidates to ensure a fair election process by not viewing competitors as enemies.
