A quantity surveyor was fined RM20,000 by the Sessions Court in Johor Baru today, when he was found guilty of posting derogatory comments on Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, via social website Facebook, in October last year.

Judge Muhammad Jamil Hussin also ordered that Ahmad Abdul Jalil, 28, be jailed for six months if he failed to pay the fine.

He paid the fine.

Ahmad is charged with knowingly making and sending offensive comments with intent to hurt the royal instituition of the Sultanate of Johor and the people in a Facebook application using the profile name ‘Zul Yahya’, at his office in RD Resources Sdn Bhd, 30-3, Jalan Wangsa Delima 11, Section 5, Kuala Lumpur about 6pm, on Oct 10, last year.

He was charged under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
