The issue of Automated Enforcement System (AES) traffic summonses paid before Sept 18 will be discussed at the cabinet meeting next week.

Acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said the ministry is studying several options, including returning half the amount paid by offenders.

NONE"We have studied the consequences. If we want to reduce the rate, by how much and for which period? What about those who paid earlier?

"The people do not realise how difficult it can be as it involves several ministries," Hishammuddin said after meeting with the AES Implementation Steering Committee in Putrajaya today.

Also present were Road Transport Department Director-General Ismail Ahmad and Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Mohd Bakri Zinin.

Hishammuddin had announced that the committee agreed to reduce the compound rate to a minimum RM150 starting Sept 18.

The rate depends on the period of payment of summonses and the speed limit recorded by motorists, with the maximum fixed at RM300.

The minister declined to reveal the other options until decided by the cabinet but he believe they will result in s 'win-win situation.'

Hishammuddin also said a complete report on the Genting Highlands horror crash in August, which killed 37 people, will only be revealed after all reports are received.

"We have received a report from the Malaysian Institute for Road Safety Research and are awaiting for reports from the police and two other agencies."
