The Home Ministry has to answer how a minimum salaried security guard carrying a fake identity card could get a rifle, gain access to rob an AmBank branch and murder one of its officers in cold blood, PAS said today.

NONEReferring to the Subang-USJ Central robbery on Wednesday evening that has shocked the nation after a video clip of the incident went viral, PAS information chief Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (left) said the Home Ministry must become more hawkish with private security firms.

"For a start, to show that the Home Ministry takes this problem seriously, PAS wants it to reveal the name of the security firm involved (in hiring the AmBank robber) as this will be a warning to the other firms," Tuan Ibrahim said.

The security guard who shot and killed Subang Jaya branch AmBank officer Norazita Abu Talib that evening escaped with RM450,000 in cash, police said.

Tuan Ibrahim noted that a Home Ministry officer had previously said there were 751 licenced private security firms in Malaysia and from this list, 125 are licenced to carry firearms.

"The ministry said up to 90 percent of the companies were audited," he said, adding that if this was true, then the AmBank incident would not have taken place.

If the police themselves could lose firearms in the toilet, from their cars or just drop them, Tuan Ibrahim questioned whether the Home Ministry can ever be trusted to check on the private security firms.
