YOURSAY 'Maybe if we have a new tax on stupidity, this DPM Muhyiddin Yassin would stop acting like an idiot as well'.

Muhyiddin uses Azizan to justify costlier sugar

your say, YoursayNot Smart: DPM Muhyiddin Yassin, don't make fun of the late MB Azizan Abdul Razak's illness to garner support for the Sungai Limau by-election. We don't know how we all will die one day. In Islam such comments are uncalled for.

Taubatlah, DPM before it's too late. You may be healthy and free from illness but don't forget you have a wife, children and other family members who could be the victim of your ego and sarcasm. Don't get carried away by your powers and position and remember the saying 'every dog will have its day'.

NuckinFuts: Talk about kicking a man (with no legs) when he's down (and dead). How heartless! Anyway, stop linking sugar consumption to diabetes and amputations. If our country's coffers weren't looted, we would have world-class diabetic education and prevention programmes and proper diabetic clinics and podiatry services in every town and every kampung in Malaysia.

The minister of education should try to read some books and pamphlets on diabetes once in a while.

Simply Best: Wow, how brilliant, the Malaysian government has found a solution where medical science has failed. They can eradicate diabetes by raising the price of sugar. Will the Nobel prize be awarded for this discovery?

CiViC: DPM, you are a disgrace to yourself and Islam by using the dead for political mileage. And no, we are not prosperous as you claim. You and your Umnoputras, yes you all are prosperous, but not ordinary people like me.

And contrary to popular beliefs, we do not eat sugar. We consume what contains sugar and the amount of sugar needed to make/cook/prepare food and beverages does not change with the price.

Shibboleth: Economics 101 according to the DPM: It's the law of supply, demand and price. So, you increase the price of sugar, demand drops marginally (so far so good.). Therefore, diabetes will drop. This is baloney! As usual, politicians are good at making correlation and analogy. We want to know the causation.

Bamboo: This DPM who works in aircon office and probably expends little physical effort doesn't understand that many workers out there need as a source of energy. They need calories from staple foods like rice, bread etc. They also need sugar in their drinks to give them energy.

Besides, all the government's savings from the sugar subsidy will likely fatten the wallets of Umnoputras and their cronies, is it not always the case?

Bolygal50: When the former sugar magnate Robert Kuok was controlling sugar distribution in Malaysia there was never any price increase. Once Umno through their policy took our sugar distribution, prices were allowed to increase according to the ruling government's whims and fancies.

Fair Play: Why bring the almighty into the argument in the first place? And his reasoning and justification defy logic. And yet Muhyiddin is the second most powerful man in the nation. With such a leader one would wonder whither the nation? Besides, his comment leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Why speak unkindly of the departed?

JungleMonkey: Using the dead to justify your own incompetence; how disgraceful you are Muhyiddin. First of all I would like to tell you that genetics is one of the major factors for type 2 diabetes, diet alone does not cause it.

Secondly you are not a member of Azizan's close family so you have no right to talk as if you know him personally - how would you know his diet control was poor? Lastly, judging from your previous brainless statement, we can conclude on your brain size, so you have no right to make such statements as if you are a medical professional.

Sonofmsia: When the sugar subsidy is removed, Umno goons say it is good for your health and libido, when they don't remove a subsidy, they say it is because they care for the poor people . How stupid - why don't you remove the subsidy for the IPPs (independent power producers)?

FN: Muhyiddin, please come back next year and give us the statistics whether diabetes cases have dropped due to the increased sugar price. In fact following your logic, you and Prime Minister Najib Razak are the cause of diabetes: just look at the amount of sugar cookies during your open houses. Do you really care for the rakyat?

Chipmunk: Your explanation does not justify the hike in sugar price and you are insulting our intelligence by your stupidity. Just expose the government's weakness and admit that your coffers are dry and you are desperate for money.

Armageddon: I agree with PAS vice-president Mahfuz Omar. In the old days, ministers used to talk as if we the rakyat were all idiots. But things have changed since then. Now the ministers talk like idiots themselves. Why can't they explain the price increase or decrease in an economic sense? Are they that stupid?

Sub: With an education minister like Muhyiddin, no wonder our education system is down the drain.

Onyourtoes: Suddenly all the half-baked politicians have become doctors, sex therapists and psychologists. I think the family of late Azizan should sue the DPM for insinuating that the late Azizan was too greedy on sugar.

What a stupid country we have become. Look, by all means just provide us with the economic reasons why the sugar subsidy should be withdrawn. There is no need for diabetes, libido and sex.

AYoungMalaysian: Maybe if we have a new tax on stupidity, this DPM cum education minister will stop acting like an idiot as well.
