One joker used the death of the late PAS politician Azizan Abdul Razak and the other sex to justify raising the price of sugar. In Bahasa Melayu, we say 'dua kali lima, lima kali dua' (two times five, five times two).

Malaysian 001: The PM will not open his mouth to reprimand any Umno member or civil servant. He just doesn't have the nuts to do it. He has not said anything to Perkasa for fear of a backlash from the extremist hoodlums and for fear of hurting its patron former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad's feelings.

The sugar subsidy withdrawal is purely to make up for the Umno government's corruption losses and wastage. It has nothing to do with the health of Malaysians. Muhyiddin is unprincipled and unworthy of holding the DPM position and has no feelings for any Malaysian other than his family.

Don't we often see the excesses of the officers of the Education Ministry who all go unpunished despite whatever they do, especially to hurt the feelings of non-Malays?

Odin: Mahfuz Omar, Muhyiddin Yassin is not top‑drawer material, not someone who is cultured, but a coarse, low‑class person. You can't expect such people to be conversant with social niceties, with decorum, to speak with finesse. Money, sir, whether honestly earned or ill gotten, cannot buy class.

BangunlahMalaysia: Does PAS especially the ulama still harbour hopes of a 'unity government' with Umno? If that were to happen, PAS would eventually be swallowed by the python whilst some ulama will be comfortably 'rich'.

Ksn: Maybe the PM who is the finance minister as well should consider imposing GST on the statements and views expressed by Umnobaru leaders for a lack of intelligence, discretion, maturity, for being racist, divisive in the national context, you know? Include Perkasa, the USD44 billion man, the fanatics, both religious and racial.

That additional tax should fetch a staggering sum annually and will help cut our fiscal deficit.

GST will up prices even with sales tax gone

Ksn: The exemption from GST for electricity consumption only applies to those who consume under 200 units monthly, which is RM50 and below. Are there any households in Malaysia whose monthly bill is below RM50?

I doubt if there are any, which means all consumers will be charged GST one way or another. Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming has correctly pointed out this fact and other GST implications and the reach of the tax.

Anonymous #02382443: The only people who will benefit from the introduction of GST are the accountants and accounting firms who will benefit from hefty fees for work on GST accounting and submission.

We have seen it again and again, the accounting firms have come out in support of the introducing of GST. If the government genuinely wants to raise revenue on a more equitable basis, the government should have imposed capital gains tax instead of just raising the rate for tax for gains on real property only (RPGT).

The rich will continue to get richer with untaxed capital gains, but we know for obvious reasons, the government will never dare impose this tax.

Doc: If everyone thinks that GST and removal of subsidies as proposed by Najib is bad, sadly the worst is yet to come. Najib has not indicated in his budget that he is willing to trim the government expenditure, reduce our deficit and repay our nation's loan.

Once out nation goes into default or bankruptcy as their own Umno pundit Idris Jala has predicted will happen in the next few years, many Malaysians especially the government servants will lose their jobs when those bailing out our country will run our nations finances and forcefully trim out budget and repay our loans.

Daniel: The GST is a tool to broaden tax collection. Therefore it only benefits the tax collector. Why are many tax professionals for it? Simple; the burden of collection is passed to the businesses so their services will be required more.

Taxpayers paying less tax and Inland Revenue increasing their tax revenue are two statements that cannot coexist. Which of the countries with the VAT (value added tax) or GST regime has citizens praising it? Only the governments, economists and the tax consultants do.
