Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah presented the instruments of appointment to seven members of the Special Committee on Corruption, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur today.

Also present at the ceremony were the MACC chief commissioner Abu Kassim Mohammed and the deputy chief commissioner (operations) Shukri Abdull.

Heading the list was the chairperson of the committee Senator Abu Zahar Ujang, who is also the Senate president, followed by the deputy Senate president, Senator Doris Sophia Brodi and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kepong, Tan Seng Giaw.

Kuala Selangor MP Irmohizam Ibrahim, Indera Mahkota MP Fauzi Abd Rahman, Kota Baru MP Takiyuddin Hassan and Dewan Negara member Senator Mohamad Ezam Mohd Nor also received their instruments of appointment.

Abu Zahar is a new face appointed to head the committee besides four others namely Irmohizam, Fauzi, Takiyuddin and Mohamad Ezam.

The tenure of membership for Doris Sophia and Tan in the committee had been extended.

All the committee members were appointed under Section 14(2) of the MACC Act for the period from May 25, 2013 to May 24, 2016.

The appointment had received the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in line with the Section 14 (2) provided in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.

Among the functions of the committee are to advise the prime minister on corruption in Malaysia, check the MACC annual report and to obtain clarification and explanation on the MACC annual report and comments of the Anti-Corruption Advisory Council.
