PAS Youth information chief Riduan Mohd Nor said it was commendable that the NRD was investigating the matter following the Ambank robbery and murder last week.
He said the NRD's revelation proves that there are widespread fake IC syndicates that have been operating for some time in the country.
"Could it be there are more criminals who are free to roam the country with fake ICs such as the suspect (in the present case)?
"Doesn't this also show that there are fake IC syndicates who may have been involved in the recent 13th general election?" said Riduan (right) in a statement today.
He called for the matter to be thoroughly probed and said the NRD must take responsibility where it is found to be involved.
"We urge that syndicates issuing fake MyKads be apprehended immediately," he said.
The NRD in an Utusan Malaysia report today admitted that they have detected several security firms hiring foreigners with fake identity cards.
NRD investigation and enforcement director, Wan Zakaria Wan Awang was reported saying that one such foreigner was even found working a security firm's arms storage facility.
