The appointment of an MCA representative to the Malacca state executive council (exco) will be discussed only after the state government receives an official letter from the party on its decision to allow an assemblyperson from the party to accept the state post.

Chief Minister Idris Haron said so far, the state government only knew about MCA’s latest decision on the matter from media reports.

“We don’t want to govern the state based on media reports alone...we are still waiting for the signal from MCA itself,” he told a news conference after the state-level launching of the ASNB Estate Planning Services in Ayer Keroh today.

Also present was Permodalan Nasional Berhad president and chief executive Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman.

The MCA extraordinary general meeting on Oct 20 had passed a resolution to allow its party members to accept state government posts.

Malacca has three state assemblypersons from MCA, namely Lai Meng Chong (Machap), Ng Choon Koon (Bemban) and Lim Ban Hong (Klebang).

Idris said there would be no revamp of the existing state exco line-up if an MCA assemblyperson came onboard but he did not dismiss the possibility of changes in portfolio among the exco members.

“But the exco members had only been appointed about five months ago and we’ll see first how they have performed,” he said.
