The police have detained a security guard to facilitate investigations into the careless discharge of a pump-action shotgun at a bank in Jalan Datok Keramat in George Town this morning.

The shots were found to have struck the plywood floor of the bank in the incident at about 11.30am.

Penang deputy police chief A Thaiveegan said initial investigations revealed that the 53-year-old man discharged the firearm behind the cashier’s counter.

“At the time of the incident, the man’s assignment was to guard the area between the strongroom and behind the counter,” he said, adding that the case was being investigated for negligence.
