NONEShaifuddin Osman, 21, and his two friends were in the compound of the flats when they heard shouts for help by another resident to safe her mother-in-law.

Saodah Che Mat, 74, who has been wheelchair-bound since a stroke six years ago, was trapped in her unit on the 13th floor.

“When we heard the cry for help, my friends and I immediately went up the stairs to save the lady who lived on the 13th floor,” said Shaifudin when met at the scene.

Six units were razed in the 4.30pm fire which broke out on the 17th floor of the PKNS Flats in Kampung Kerinchi.

Meanwhile, Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the victims have been given shelter at the Lembah Pantai Kerinchi Community Centre until their flats are declared safe.
