SG LIMAU A woman in white bridal attire became the centre of attention at the polling centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Dulang in Yan when she arrived to exercise her right as a voter in the Sungai Limau state by-election.

Azalinawati Azazan, 29, accompanied by family members, arrived at the polling centre at about 3.15pm to cast her vote after her marriage solemnisation ceremony at the Yan Religious Council office earlier.

The bride, an employee at the Inland Revenue Board in Cyberjaya, said she and her husband, Dzahir Ghazali, 30, are voters in Sungai Limau, but with different polling centres.

“My husband went to vote at Sungai Durian. We have chosen today for our marriage solemnisation a long time ago. Coincidentally, it is also the date for the by-election.

“More special, today is also my mother’s birthday,” she said when met by Bernama after she went to cast her vote.

She said the wedding reception would be held at her house in Kampung Dulang Kechil in Yan on Nov 30.

On her criteria of the elected representative, Anzalinawati said the person should be someone approachable and concerned about the people's well-being.

The by-election is a straight fight between Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Dr Ahmad Sohaimi Lazim and PAS candidate Mohd Azam Abdul Samat.

The Sungai Limau state seat fell vacant following the death on Sept 26, of the incumbent Azizan Abdul Razak, who was the elected representative for the constituency since 1995.
