DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang said DAP chairperson Karpal Singh has explained that he has never urged that PAS be deregistered, and cautions its partner not to fall into the trap of such spin.

"We have to be cautious, seeing as there are parties who are trying to spoil the unity of Pakatan Rakyat," said Lim according to Harakahdaily today.

lim kit siang sg limau by election 021113 03"I have spoken to Karpal and he was clarified that he has not at all called for the registration of PAS to be cancelled," Lim was reported telling the PAS organ last night in a statement.

Karpal said he was merely criticising the Muslim Lawyers Association (PPMM) for threatening the Bar Council for supporting Catholic newspaper The Herald's case over the ban on its use of Allah.

"Rational and patriotic Malaysians are increasingly concerned about the sharp increase in racial rhetoric and religious intolerance and hate in this country," Lim was quoted saying.

"Such concerns should not be belittled or spun into baseless accusations such as the present one alleging that Karpal wants PAS' to be deregistered," he added.

On Tuesday, government-owned news agency Bernama reported Karpal allegedly telling a press conference in Penang that all racial parties should be deregistered, when commenting on PPMM's recent statements.

The remark irked PAS leaders, who urged that DAP take action against Karpal.
