Gov't not appealing Ling's acquittal in PKFZ case

voxpop, voxCala: The acquittal verdict of former transport minister Dr Ling Liong Sik marks the dark age of Malaysia's legal system predicted perfectly by ex-Lord President Mohamed Suffian Hashim many years ago.

If a person committed a monstrous crime and is yet not held accountable, one needs to ask what is the role of a state. Is it not the duty of a government to ensure law and order?

But if law and order is something not respected, how different is this government from that of Zimbabwe in Africa which earned the "distinction of lawlessness"?

Apparently in Zimbabwe, President Robert Mugabe could disregard any law and enact one whenever he likes it. Indeed, Malaysia = Zimbabwe.

Must time and resources be wasted to bring the case, and no result in the end. Malaysia is a mysterious country and not just ‘boleh'.

MinahBulat: There is no point in appealing, the evidence shows that he knows nothing about the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) fiasco. In this part of the world, an offence can be committed without a perpetrator.

A scam involving a few hundred million ringgit gets an acquittal and no appeal made, but a case involving a few thousand ringgit that allegedly went missing and an opposition worker gets interrogated to death, literally.

M.A.: Yesterday we read of the four security guards were sentenced to death over a kidnapping case. (I'm all for strong justice against kidnappers). The ransom paid was RM5,000.

Here billions of ringgit are lost and the culprits walked away scot free.

Angel: Our attorney-general (AG) is not very clever. Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who was then the head of the cabinet, had said that Ling did not cheat the cabinet. Former PMs Abdullah Ahmad Badawi or Najib Abdul Razak did not come to court to say otherwise.

To prove cheating, the AG must show that Ling gained from the cheating. I do not know why the judges did not comment on this. What Mahathir said to the police was known to the AG and he still proceeded with the case.

Water concessionaires takeover okayed, says Khalid

Onyourtoes: You see, Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, one lousy and stupid decision of the federal government to privatise a vital resource to some nincompoops has caused you so much time just on this issue alone.

You could have formulated or done so much more on other stuff if not saddled with this nonsense for so long.

Toonarmy: Selangor's best-ever MB so far. It's much, much better to have a ‘cheapskate' like him than a PM like Mr Altantuya Scorpene, whose discretionary slush funds amounted to RM20 billion in four years.
