Following the withdrawal of the defamation suit by Shahrizat Abdul Jalil against him and Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin, Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli of PKR has decided to write a book on the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) fiasco to encourage Malaysians not to be afraid of revealing corruption and scandals.

Rafizi, who is also PKR’s director of strategy, said that there were many undisclosed details about NFC which were important for the public to know.

“We hope to publish and share with the public on what was behind the scenes, what happened in NFC, especially when many people asked how we came to know about the case,” he told a press conference outside the Kuala Lumpur High Court today.

“We hope to educate Malaysians (on) what they can do further to fight against corruption,” he said.

“The intention (of writing a book) is so that Malaysians will know no matter how small you think you are, even if you can’t come to the front, there are still many things you can do behind the scenes.”

Asked how long it would take for the book to be completed, Rafizi said he would need about three months .

“NFC is a thing of fact, a lot of people have not surfaced in the last two years, the people who are involved,” he said.

Choosing to walk away

Rafizi also expressed his concern that many stumbled upon corruption but most of them chose to walk away and did not do anything eventually.

“The decision (about the withdrawal of Shahrizat’s defamation suit) gives encouragement to the people that they shouldn’t be scared, look carefully and if you find something, you know what to do.

“If you come to court, don’t worry, there are always people like Ranjit Singh to defend you,” he quipped.

Ranjit is Rafizi’s counsel in the defamation case.

After breaking the NFC scandals, Rafizi was also charged with allegedly violating the Banking and Financial Institutions Act (Bafia) by revealing confidential banking details.

Shahrizat’s husband, Mohamad Salleh Ismail, who is also NFC executive chairperson, had subsequently sued Rafizi for damages due to the exposure of confidential banking information and slanderous statements.

Both cases are ongoing.
