PKR deputy president Azmin Ali has warned the party's elected representatives not to toy with the mandate given to them by their voters.

Azmin was commenting on the internal strife in Sabah PKR, which two of its state assemblypersons, Jelani Hamdan (Matunggong) and Jeremy Malajad (Kadamaian), announcing their intention to quit their party posts.

Acknowledging the problem in Sabah as a big challenge for the PKR state chapter, he said the party must ensure there was no repeat of its elected representatives quitting PKR.

"Don't play with the mandate given by the people. This must be looked into by all," Azmin told reporters when met at the Parliament lobby earlier today.

He admitted that some party members could be facing "political fatigue" and could not continue with their struggles, but stressed that the process of change is a "marathon".

Azmin insisted that the Sabah chapter of the party has full autonomy to decide on its affairs.

"With a new amendment to the party constitution to be tabled on Nov 24, we have discussed to allow the state leadership to discuss its own (matters) and there shouldn't be any issue of us (central leadership) interfering," he said.

"They are given full autonomy, but from time to time they should discuss with the central leadership to ensure policies proposed are within the framework of national policies," Azmin added.
