MCA leader slams Karpal's 'double standard'

A MCA leader has taken Karpal Singh to task over his "double standard" call for race and religious-based parties to be de-registered.

Loh Seng Kok (left) noted how DAP leaders, including Karpal, had to issue clarifications after PAS saw red over this matter.

"Ever since he (Karpal) made such irresponsible remarks, we have seen the waves of dissatisfaction reverberate through the Pakatan Rakyat coalition.

"Under severe pressure, DAP was forced to issue a clarification and soften their stand. Even DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang had to jump in to say that Karpal was not referring to PAS.   

"Karpal also mentioned later that he did not mean to insult PAS," he added.

In view of this, the MCA central committee member asked if Karpal was retracting his statement or merely exempting PAS.

"This is a display of double standard behavior, as Karpal exempts PAS, yet says nothing about other associations.

"Does this mean that he still supports the abolishment of various Chinese and Indians associations and guilds, or even Chinese and Tamil schools?" he added.

As DAP's chairperson, Loh said, Karpal must avoid making remarks which are detrimental to national unity.

"Malaysia is a multiracial society, and ever since our independence we have managed to attain unity despite our diverse backgrounds, and this has been internationally recognised.

"However, DAP, which claims to be multiracial, is nothing but a hypocrite which makes all kinds of racist allegations which can threaten our nation’s racial unity," he added.
