'Sorry for believing you were an evil racist', Kit Siang told

To drive home the point of how opposition leaders are victims of falsehoods perpetuated by their political rivals, Lim Kit Siang recounted a personal experience.

The DAP veteran said a Malay woman recently approached him at the airport and apologised.

"I was taken by surprise and I asked her what it was all about. She said that for the first 18 years of her life, she hated me as a racist and an evil person.

"All that she had learned about me was that I was anti-Malay and anti-Islam, but when she had access to information on the Internet, she found that what she had learned about me was completely untrue," Lim recalled in a statement today.

Even after the conclusion of GE13, Lim said, the cyberwar against Pakatan parties has not abated.

"I was recently accused of being part of the 'Illuminati', the so-called secret global organisation of the most powerful and influential elites to exercise political and economic control of the world.  

"After the allegation in the Umno cyberblogs, I had to search the Internet to learn about the so-called Illuminati conspiracy," he said.

'Information revolution will held to liberate minds'

Lim also recalled the warning last week from former top diplomat Razali Ismail that Malaysia would lose its competitive economic edge if its politics continued to cater to racial and religious extremes.

"Razali (left) cannot be more right and the rhetoric and politics of extremism and intolerance have never been so rancorous and polarising in the nation’s history than in the past six months after GE13, despite the prime minister’s talk of national reconciliation and his promotion of the Global Movement of Moderates," he said.

However, the Gelang Patah MP is confident that the information revolution would help Pakatan to liberate minds which Umno and BN propagandists and cybertroopers were seeking to poison and imprison.

"What is important is that Pakatan parties must stay the political and electoral course until we succeed in bringing  about political change for Malaysians, regardless of race, religion, region or class, to achieve the common Malaysian Dream," Lim added.
