The MCA Youth central committee today unanimously recommended its chief Wee Ka Siong and deputy chief Mah Hang Soon to contest the deputy president and vice president posts respectively in the upcoming party polls.

"The central committee unanimously recommended Mah and myself  to take up the posts, as they felt MCA needed young blood," said Wee after chairing the MCA Youth central committee meeting.

Wee said he would seriously consider the recommendation, and the answer would be made known on nomination day (Dec 16).

If Wee accepts the recommendation, it would be seen as teaming up with his comrade and deputy president Liow Tiong Lai, who would be vying for the president post.

"We will give due consideration, it's our obligation to assist in the party's rejuvenation," said the Youth chief.

 

Both Wee and Mah agreed to vote for each other despite the latter being one of the 20 petitioners who sought to censure Liow in an extraordinary general meeting held on Oct 20,

Wee, on the other hand, was against the move to censure Liow.

 

According to Wee, the Youth wing had nominated its former chiefs Ong Tee Keat and Liow in 2005 and 2008 respectively to contest as MCA vice president.

He also chided the media for labeling him as a member of Liow's faction, claiming that all leaders belonged to the same faction.

Wee also denied that the wing had lost touch with the younger generation, as alleged by party president Dr Chua Soi Lek.

Chua had reportedly advised the wing to pay attention to national issues such as inflation, job opportunities and the crime rate as young people were also concerned about such issues.

"How can we lose touch with (the younger generation)? Education and business are the two issues that the Chinese care most about, we (feel the) pulse of the community," said Wee.

On other matters, Wee said MCA must explain to the public regarding the Goods and Services Tax to eliminate possible misconceptions right after the party polls.
