DAP's Ipoh Barat MP M Kulasegaran has flayed Deputy Education Minister Mary Yap for refusing to address claims of racial segregation during the recent matriculation exams.

"Mary Yap is not one who is slow to comment on issues related to the Education Ministry, so why has she chosen to avoid answering the question?

NONE "The least she could have said is that she will check if such segregation did take place or that such a practice cannot be accepted," he said in a statement today.

Yap had reportedly replied, "I place education above politics" when queried about the claim by Perak DAP vice chairperson A Sivanesan.

Sivanesan claimed to have received several complaints nationwide that Malay and non-Malay students were placed in separate halls during the matriculation exams.

Kulasegaran ( right ) described Yap's response to such a sensitive issue as "shocking" and called on her boss, Education Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to respond instead.

"Exam apartheid is a serious issue, on which Malaysians are entitled to know the answers.

"Muhyiddin must not choose to remain silent and must come clean on the matter," he said.
