Umno's Ketereh MP Annuar Musa has thrown his support behind PAS for the implementation of hudud law in Kelantan.

According to a Sinar Harian report today, Annuar said Kelantan can take the lead with hudud law to become a model for other states.

"Matters of religion come completely under the state's jurisdiction. Let us unite to make Allah's law the supreme law in Kelantan," he was quoted as saying.

NONE Annuar ( right ) added that DAP should not interfere with any plans on the matter as the party does not even possess "half a seat" in the state assembly.

"We do not interfere on whether hudud is implemented in Penang or Selangor, let Kelantan do it and others can follow," he said.

The debate over the move was reignited after neighbouring Brunei began to roll out tough punishments last month under syariah law.

The Kelantan government had insisted that it is committed to implement the Islamic law but cannot do so without the federal government's cooperation.

Just rhetoric

In a related development, Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said a special court should be established if hudud law was to be implemented in the state.

According to Bernama , he said the state government would have to take into consideration various matters, including the legal aspect, before hudud could be enforced.

"The technical committee have met four times. Only a full meeting has been held. Perhaps in December on January next year, we will discuss again.

"It involves legal experts and judges, as well as legal practitioners, on what the state government should do to implement Hudud," he added.

Meanwhile, in a Facebook posting, political analyst Mohammad Agus Yusoff said speeches about implementing hudud law were nothing more than rhetoric.

He added that hudud law could only be implemented in Kelantan with the help of Parliament but Putrajaya had rejected this in 1994.

"What has to be done is for the state and federal government to negotiate and compromise to support each other in Parliament for hudud law in Kelantan," he said.
