The results of the investigation on the Genting Highlands bus crash which claimed 37 lives at KM3.6 Jalan Genting Highlands-Kuala Lumpur on Aug 21 will definitely be fully disclosed to the public, said acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein.

"I've personally met with the senior management of Genting Highland Bhd and asked them to cooperate with the authorities involved in the investigation.

"I've also ordered the relevant authorities to investigate the tragedy thoroughly and in a transparent manner," Hishammuddin said at the Road Safety Council (MKJR) annual dinner in Bandar Hilir, Malacca last night.

Also present were Malacca Chief Minister Idris Haron, Department of Road Safety (JKJR) director-general Tam Weng Wah and state MKJR chairperson Abdul Ghafaar Atan.

Hishammuddin, who is also Defence Minister, said following the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety's (MIROS) initial report on the incident, the Public Land Transport Commission had suspended the licence of the bus operator concerned.

Meanwhile, he said the JKJR and MKJR have been ordered to set up branches in every district nationwide effective January 2014, to ensure the comprehensive implementation of initiatives and efforts to raise awareness and educate the public on road safety.

He added that the move was critical to prevent the repeat of the RM8.3 billion losses due to 6,917 road fatalities incurred by the government last year.
