Muslim NGO Ikatan Muslim Malaysia (Isma) has been labelled “racist and narrow-minded” after attacking PKR facto leader Anwar Ibrahim for spreading ‘liberal democratic views’ to the party’s Pakatan Rakyat partners.

timbalan ketua penerangan amk najwan halimi PKR Youth information deputy chief Najwan Halimi (right) said such accusations are malicious and directed at tarnishing Anwar's image and causing a split in Malaysia’s multi-ethnic society.

“It is clear that Isma president Abdullah Zaik Abdul Rahman does not fully understand the liberal concept. He is acting maliciously in representing a narrow and old-fashioned way of thinking,” said Najwan.

In an interview with Malaysiakini , Abdullah Zaik had said that Pakatan’s and Anwar's liberal views would result in the country losing its identity.

He also claimed that the Malays - having accepted the Chinese and Indians - could lose their political power and sovereignty, and “become passengers in our own country".

Najwan also said it was wrong of Isma to claim that the Institut Kajian Dasar (IKD) and Pusat Komas are involved in promoting the liberal doctrine.

The  IKD is a think-tank that also supports classical and contemporary Islamic views, he noted.
