The leader of the ‘Tuhan Harun’ deviationist group, Harun Mat Saad, 47, was remanded by the magistrate’s court in Kuantan for one week beginning today to assist investigation into the murder of the principal assistant director of enforcement, Pahang Islamic Religious Department (Jaip), Ahmad Raffli Abd Malik on Nov 10.  

Magistrate Tuan Ruzuaini Tuan Lah also issued a remand order for one week on Harun’s third wife, Azida Mohd Zol, 30, and his driver, Nor Hairi Harun, 41, at the Kuantan District Police Headquarters’ lock-up at about 11am today.

On Nov 10, Ahmad Raffli was shot dead by one of three unknown suspects in front of his house at Indera Mahkota 2 in Kuantan.

Before his death, Ahmad Raffli, 49, was believed to be handling two syariah criminal cases in Pahang, namely the ‘Tuhan Harun’ deviationist teachings and the shiite movement.

Earlier at the media conference at the Pahang Contingent Police Headquarters, state deputy police chief Jamaluddin Abdul Majid said Harun was detained at Jalan Hospital, Tangkak, Johor at 3.20pm yesterday.  

He said Harun’s third wife and driver were detained at a house in Jalan Puteri, Taman Bandar Baru Tangkak, Johor, 10 minutes later.

Follower surrenders at Syariah High Court

Meanwhile, a suspected ‘Tuhan Harun’ follower surrendered at the Syariah High Court in Kuantan today, after a warrant of arrest was issued against him on Nov 15.

The warrant was issued against Mohd Nizam Mohd Salleh, 43, when he failed to attend a trial on Nov 15 for allegedly keeping and owning documents which flouted Islamic laws.

Syarie Judge Mohd Azahari Abdul Rahman fixed Jan 16 for re-mention of the case in his chambers.

After listening to Mohd Nizam’s reason for not turning up for the trial, Mohd Azahari retained a bail of RM1,000 in one surety which was imposed on him previously.

Pahang Islamic Religious Department (Jaip) Syarie deputy prosecutor Mohd Fahmi Abd Jalil prosecuted.

Mohd Nizam and five other followers of ‘Tuhan Harun’, namely, Husin Ismail, 43; Pius Anahong @ Mahdi Abdullah, 40; Mohd Khalilie Zazali, 31; Syahiszam Soid, 40; and, Mohd Shahril Mohd Jaafar, 28, were charged with committing the offence at a premises in B16-1st, Lorong Pandan Damai 2/201, Kuantan at 6.30pm on April 4.

They were charged under Section 165 of the Administration of the Religion of Islam and the Malay Customs of Pahang Enactment 1982 which provided for a fine of RM2,000 or one year’s jail, or both.
