MUKTAMAR PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has pledged that the party will resolve the problems faced by the party in Penang internally through Pakatan Rakyat.

NONE Abdul Hadi ( right ) described the cooperation as being good despite PAS obtaining only one seat, and that there are bound to be problems in any government.

“We will resolve the problem internally as I will meet the Penang leaders to get an explanation. We will not resolve it through the media.

While admitting there are some teething problems which needed to be ironed out, he said that this was not limited to Penang, but also in Kelantan and elsewhere.

“I acknowledge listening or seeing the problems as highlighted by the media, but I will meet with Penang PAS and Pakatan leaders. God willing, after meeting them, we will discuss (the matter) within Pakatan,” he said during a press conference after delivering the president's speech.

It was reported that Penang PAS had complained of being sidelined by its Pakatan partners, namely the DAP and PKR.

Yesterday, a PAS Youth delegate had described the state PAS’ role in Pakatan as akin to being placed in the driver's seat, but with no steering wheel .

Committed to Pakatan

Meanwhile Abdul Hadi reiterated that PAS remains committed towards the Pakatan alliance, as emphasised in his speech, as the opposition coalition controls three states despite not ruling Malaysia.

NONE “There are many agenda which needs to be carried out and we are still have a long journey (ahead). What is raised by the wings on tahaluf siyasi (political cooperation) is normal in any country or political struggle.

“We are equal partners in Pakatan and we have achieved success in getting the popular votes. Unfortunately this is not reflected in the seats,” he said.

He was referring to the motion passed yesterday by the Islamic party’s Central Ulama wing proposing the Ulama Syura Council and PAS Central Committee create a committee to review the party’s Pakatan Rakyat alliance.

Quizzed on another Ulama wing’s motion that the president, deputy and vice-president posts be held by an ulama, Abdul Hadi stressed that the matter was still just a motion, and nothing as been decided yet.

“The committee will look at all the proposals. It is not yet a decision,” he said.

PAS supportive of Kelantan hudud plan

The PAS president is also supportive of the PAS-led Kelantan government's intention to implementing hudud despite the hurdles and intervention by the federal government, which he claimed does not abide by the constitution.

Asked on DAP's objection to the huded, Abdul Hadi said PAS will engage in an internal dialogue with the DAP on the matter.

“We are united in many matters, but there are several things in which we share different views. Syariah law is implemented upon Muslims but not non-Muslims.

“We would not force them (non-Muslims) to embrace Islam or enforce that alcohol be prohibited to them as it is their right.

NONE “We have been having dialogues on Syariah since 1990 and DAP attends every time, but it is only Umno who do not attend and seem to provide barriers by threatening to bring the matter to court and its various actions,” he said.

Quizzed on his son's election as PAS Youth deputy chief ( above ), Abdul Hadi quipped all Youth members are his children and that his campaigning had nothing to do with his son's win.
