MCA has accused Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim of taking the public for a ride in the "40,000 Bangladeshi voters" claim that neither the BN nor Pakatan Rakyat have taken responsibility.

In this MCA joined Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia , which hurled brickbats on Anwar for a second day in a row today on the matter.

On Wednesday, Anwar denied that the opposition ever said anything about 40,000 Bangladeshi foreign workers being registered as voters for the 13th general election of May 5.

malaysiakini interview loh seng kok 061108 04 Instead, he pointed at Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and the BN as the ones making up this story.

"Now, despite both BN and the Bangladeshi Prime Minister confirming that no Bangladeshi was allowed to vote during the GE13, Anwar continues to ignore his responsibility by claiming that he made no such accusation when he should instead be apologising," MCA publicity bureau deputy chairperson Loh Seng Kok ( left ) said.

Loh said the MCA lost voter support in GE13 because of such "heinous acts" of Anwar and blamed another report circulated over  social media sites during the GE13 period that said the MCA headquarters was handing out MyKads to foreign workers.

"This put MCA's image in disrepute. Even after MCA issued a disclaimer and a warning to the website administrators, who had later admitted their mistake, it was clear that this had already tarnished MCA's image to Pakatan's advantage," Loh said in a press statement.

on May 2 reported PKR de facto leader Anwar's claim that the Prime Minister's Office had flown in ‘dubious' voters from East Malaysia to the peninsula, after obtaining documents with purported flight details.

By polling day, Anwar said, more than 40,000 people would have been flown in through these flights.

Najib said in his Budget speech last month that the opposition has made the allegation that "40,000 Bangladeshis were flown in to vote" and he went on to laugh it off as he asked those who made the allegation to "repent".

Najib repeated this allegation in an interview with CNN in London a few days later, when questioned about election irregularities in GE13.
