Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin appears to be on a collision course with the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM). Again.

This follows his appointment of Ketereh MP Annuar Musa as a member of the national football development committee.

This despite a 30-month suspension by FAM against Annuar since April last year for violating Article 88 of the body's statutes.

Article 88 bars football officials, except the FAM president and secretary-general, from speaking to the media on policy matters. This was relaxed in August.

"If the appointment is true, FAM has a right to take action but so far we have  not received any word from the body on this matter," Asian Football Federation  disciplinary committee member Ednan Othman was quoted as saying in Berita Harian today.

NONE Ednan added that the appointment was illegal as Annuar ( left ) is barred from any football activities during the period of suspension.

Khairy had in the past weeks crossed swords with FAM several times over the national football team's poor performance and the body's handling of the Nov 3 Malaysia Cup final where a pistol was discovered.

In a Twitter posting, Khairy confirmed Annuar's appointment, citing his successes when leading the Kelantan Football Association.

"He has many ideas for (football) development. Yes, I appointed him," he said in the posting.

Meanwhile, Annuar in a Facebook posting said he had received the appointment letter but also raised the question over its validity as he is still suspended.

"I thank the minister for his trust and will work to help him for  national football. But just one question - Can I be appointed while I am still suspended? Whatever it may be, I will still serve," he said.
