After being linked to Wahabism, former Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin has challenged his accuser Kedah mufti Sheikh Muhamad Baderudin Ahmad to take a sacred oath to back his claim.

He was referring to a video of Sheikh Muhamad speaking on Wahabism, in which he implicated Asri in the practice.

"I invite him take a sacred oath in the name of Allah.

"If I did indeed say the words as he accused me to have said, then I will be punished by Allah.

"If not, he will be punished by Allah," wrote Asri ( above ) in a blog posting.

Stressing that the allegations were "lies", Asri called on Muhamad to prove his claims.

"He can seek out where I am supposed to have made such statements in my writings or speeches, which are easily accessible in cyberspace.

"I ask that he retract the claim if he has made a mistake or was given wrong information," said the vocal ex-mufti.

In 2011 a number of religious figures including Asri were implicated in what some called a witch hunt against alleged Wahabis.

Asri had, however ,vehemently denied the allegations.
