MUKTAMAR A A PAS delegate has sounded a warning that the source of the party's infighting is not factional conflict, but arrogance.

He urged all members and supporters to put an end to this conflict and "bury it in this stadium straight away" at the conclusion of the PAS Muktamar, which is continuing today.

"I am worried that the current internal conflict is not the result of a confrontation between the ulama faction and the Erdogan faction, but it comes from a new issue that I would like to call ‘Mr Arrogant' that has surfaced in PAS.

59th pas muktamar 2013 2 "Arrogance has set in among some PAS leaders to the extent that we feel we are the best, our views are the greatest, and cause us to look down on other leaders who have been entrusted by the delegates," said Terengganu delegate Hishamuddin Abdul Karim at the PAS Muktamar today.

He said this while praising PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's humility in refusing to challenge his predecessor Fadzil Muhammad Noor for presidency despite his popularity and repeated calls for him to do so.

Abdul Hadi succeeded Fadzil only after his passing in 2002.

"I have been made to understand that his (Hadi Awang's response to the calls to challenge Fadzil) was that, ‘I can't even outdo Ustaz Fadzil in performing solat sunat prayers, do I don't think I can't fight him for the presidency.

"The past situation shows the calm and harmony in PAS's struggle, which now appears to be disappearing among PAS members and supporters," Hishamuddin said while debating the president's speech.

He also condemned criticisms circulating via social media branding the Ulama wing chief as a person who is "wheelchair-bound yet power hungry".

'Don't be apologetic'

Meanwhile, Wilayah Persekutuan delegate Kamaruzzaman Mohamad urged PAS not to be "apologetic" when speaking on the hudud for the sake of votes.

"Don't be apologetic when speaking of Islam... We want to go to bring the syariah to Putrajaya, and not leave the syariah at the gates of Putrajaya when we win," he said.

Backing Hishamuddin, he also called for religious training for all PAS members so they would not attack the ulama or other PAS leaders so viciously, like in the last round's polls.

Kamaruzzaman, who lost narrowly in the race for the Youth chief on Thursday, said that at the same time PAS needs to resolve two issues if it wants to win the confidence of traditional Malay voters.

This is to have a coherent and united stand on the use of the word Allah by non-Muslims and to show that PAS is not "DAP's lackey (barua)".

"The Syura Council has already issued a clear guide on the use of the word Allah, so why is it not adhered to?" he asked.
