Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been responding well to treatment since he was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) last Saturday for chest infection.

"The medical team is satisfied with his progress," a statement from Mahathir's office said today.

The statement said that the former premier was currently undergoing treatment and chest physiotherapy and exercise.

Prime Minister Najib Razak and wife Rosmah Mansor today visited Mahathir at the General Ward of the IJN.

The prime minister and his wife spent more than 30 minutes with Mahathir together with Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali on his side.

Mahathir was in a cheerful mood during the meeting with the prime minister.
