MUKTAMAR PAS syura council reiterates its support for its existing cooperation with its Pakatan Rakyat partners DAP and PKR.

Its secretary Nik Zawawi Nik Salleh said it found the existing tahaluf siyasi (political cooperation) is within the practice of Al Quran and sunnah (practices of the Prophet).

"It also follows what is agreed upon by religious scholars, is syariah compliant. Hence, the existing political cooperation will continue."

"We will not betray our partnership with anyone, especially with our Pakatan partners," he vouched today.

The syura council is the highest decision making body in PAS.

NONE There have been a lot of questions over the commitment of PAS with the Pakatan coalition in the media recently.

Fuel was added to fire by the grouses raised by Penang PAS that it had been sidelined in the administration of the state.

Nik Zawawi's views were reiterated by the Ulama wing deputy chief Mahfodz Mohamed ( right ) who confirmed the wing was reviewing the role of PAS in Pakatan.

However Mahfodz, who is from Johor, explained that the review of tahaluf siyasi is not about PAS leaving Pakatan.

"We do not want to break up with Pakatan. What we are doing is study and review our relationship. This is like in any other project where we will review its weaknesses, including from political and policy viewpoints," he said.

“The purpose is to improve the coalition further,” he said, adding that what is highlighted by the media is mainly a political ploy by Umno and BN to divert the attention of the Pakatan partners.
