PKR today questioned whether there are political reasons behind the allocation for the 1Malaysia maintenance fund (TP1M), since Selangor has not received any allocation under the federal programme.

NONE The funds are supposed to be channelled for the maintenance works of low-cost and medium low-cost apartments, but PKR's Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin ( left ) said despite having so many low-cost flats, Selangor did not have a single project approved under the fund, while Penang only had four out of 119 applications approved.

Both Penang and Selangor are ruled by Pakatan Rakyat.

        

"It is amazing that no project was approved for Selangor. Selangor and Penang have many low-cost flats," Sim told a press conference at the Parliament lobby.

"Is there an element of partiality in the allocations?" he asked.

He also said the allocation was "unfair" to states outside Kuala Lumpur because the federal capital had a whopping 74 percent allocated out of the RM40 million set aside for the programme in 2013.

Kuala Lumpur also had 62 percent of its total applications approved, followed by Johor and Perak with an approval ratio of 12 percent each.

These figures were revealed in a parliamentary reply from the Urban Well Being, Housing and Local Government Ministry.

Sim also pointed out that RM500 million was allocated for the programme under the 10th Malaysia Plan due in 2015, but only RM40 million was spent in 2013 and there was no mention of the project allocation in the 2014 budget.

"When, and how, is the ministry going to spend the remaining RM460 million of the allocation?" he asked.
