Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim ( right ) today said that the ruling BN coalition was more concerned over the Coalition of Malaysian NGOs (Comango) on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) process rather than worrying about allegations of spying on Kuala Lumpur by the United States, Australia and Singapore.

“This issue (Comango) has been played up. But when we talk about spying, they are quiet,” he said during a press conference at Parliament lobby today.

He blasted the government for its “meek” (lembik) stance in tackling the spying allegations.

“Where is the stern statement from the foreign minister, home affairs minister, or the prime minister himself?” Anwar asked.

"We must condemn this rude action (by other countries) that affects our good relations with them."

Anwar said that his party's stand in objecting to Comango's demands has always been consistent.

"We object to it, and we have said it before. In fact, this will be raised in the Pakatan meeting. But we consider this a non-issue. There are more pertinent issues," Anwar said.

He also said that BN must be "more consistent" in upholding Islamic values.

"They are also the ones that are allowing gambling and alcoholism to grow in this country. Where is the consistency?" he asked.
