) from DAP and Gopeng MP Lee Boon Chye from PKR claimed Muhyiddin made the promise during a gathering with people in Ipoh three years ago, after the school managed to obtain a 2.4acre land for some badly-needed expansion.
But the money is yet to be channelled, leading to the school authorities coming to Parliament today in order to submit a memorandum to the Education Ministry, headed by Muhyiddin .
They said that the school currently only has six classrooms and sits on a 0.4 acre piece of land.
“If the new school at the new location is built, the number of students going to the school could increase from 170 students to nearly 500 students,” Lee said.
Sivakumar said that the school, SJK (T) Gunung Rapat, is the only Tamil school in that township in Gunung Rapat and thus many more students will enroll in the school should it be upgraded.
The school authorities are seeking the funds to build a four-storey school building with facilities such as a school field.
As of now, the school holds its assemblies in the school carpark, and does not have a school field, the MPs said.
