PAS has appointed three candidates who lost in the recent party elections to senior posts within the party, including former vice-president Mahfuz Omar.

NONE Mahfuz has been made the Islamic party’s information chief, while Kelantan deputy menteri besar Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah ( right ), who lost the deputy presidency contest to incumbent Mohamad Sabu, has been appointed central committee member along with losing vice-president candidate Abu Bakar Chik.

The party also decided to retain Mustafa Ali as its secretary-general and Mohd Hatta Ramli as party election director.

The appointments followed a meeting by the PAS’ central committee members, chaired by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, and its first since the recently-concluded polls on November 22.

PAS also agreed to appoint Kelantan Menteri Besar Ahmad Yaakob as the new treasurer, replacing Abdul Halim Abdul Rahman. Ahmad is also Kelantan PAS chief.

NONE Abdul Hadi ( left ) also announced that the appointment of the party’s assistant secretary-general and the Penang PAS commissioner would only be made in the second meeting, which is scheduled for Dec 17.

Penang PAS is headed by Mohd Salleh Man. However, it was previously reported that the state party members were not happy with PAS’ cooperation with its Pakatan Rakyat partners namely DAP and PKR.

Other appointed central committee members are Mohd Hussin, Asmuni Awi, Zulkiflee Mohd Omar and Muhaimin Sulam.

Some states, including Selangor and Johor, also saw new state chairpersons leading the party, with Selangor exco member and Chempaka assemblyperson Iskandar Abdul Samad replacing Dr Abdul Rani Othman, while Johor Parit Yaani's assemblyperson Aminulhoda Hassan replaces Mahfodz Mohamed.
