Rompin OCPD DSP Ahmad Johari Jahaya said the residents of four villages were evacuated from 10 am when floodwaters rose to more than one metre.
Twenty-three people were evacuated from Kampung Pertat to the Pertat Mosque, 12 from Kampung Kurnia to the Teluk Gading Hall, nine from Kampung Pianggu to Sekolah Kebangsaan Pianggu and eight from Kampung Kerpal to the Simpang Sepayang Community Hall, he told Bernama .
He advised people living in low-lying areas to abide by instructions to evacuate if floods occurred in their areas.
“People in flood-prone low-lying areas and along river banks are advised to be on the alert following heavy rain since yesterday,” he said.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson of the Pahang police flood operations room said only the Rompin district was reportedly affected by floods following heavy rain since yesterday.
“The Sungai Charu bridge at Km28 of the road from Kuantan to Sungai Lembing town is closed to all vehicles as it is under one metre of water,” he said.
