MCA president Chua Soi Lek’s son, Chua Tee Yong, has announced that he will be in the running for a party vice-presidency in the MCA election on Dec 21.

Also announcing their candidacy with him is MCA Kampar division chief Lee Chee Leong, who is also vying for a vice-presidency, and 13 other aspiring candidates for central committee members.

There are a total of four vice-president positions and 25 central committee member positions up for grabs in the upcoming party polls.

NONE Tee Yong ( left ) said he did not announce a full line-up to fill the positions to avoid further infighting after the party polls.

“We are trying to create a new election culture where we hope to accommodate different voices and different factions.

“Normally, if you have noticed in the party’s election history, they will always propose four (vice-presidents) and 25 central committee (members). Then you will have another team that proposes four (vice-presidents) and 25 (central committee members).

“Then there will be continuous infighting, and we cannot afford it now because of our party’s condition,” he said at a press conference after the announcement.

NONE He pledged that he and his team will close ranks and work with whomever else wins in the party elections.

To a question whether this is the line-up favoured by his father, current president Chua Soi Lek, Tee Yong replied that the outgoing president has only one vote, and his team seeks the support of over 2,300 central delegates.
