What say you to '1Melayu' call, Najib asked
Will Umno president Najib Abdul Razak have the courage to take an Umno delegate to task over the ‘seditious’ proposal for 1Melayu to replace the 1Malaysia slogan, a DAP MP has asked.
Will Umno president Najib Abdul Razak have the courage to take an Umno delegate to task over the ‘seditious’ proposal for 1Melayu to replace the 1Malaysia slogan, a DAP MP has asked.
Batu Gajah MP V Sivakumar (

) said the “racist” call indicated that Umno was turning its back on its previous preaching of racial unity propaganda prior to the national polls in May.
He was referring to the call by Bukit Mertajam Umno division chief Musa Sheikh Fadzir during the Umno general assembly yesterday for 1Malaysia, a term coined by the prime minister Najib himself, to be replaced in view of lacklustre support from non-Malays during the 13th general election.
“He (Musa) has openly said that ‘other races’ backstabbed (BN) during the elections.
“Does the Umno president dare reprimand (Musa) and openly state his stand?,” he asked in a statement today.
Sivakumar further accused the ruling coalition of lying to the masses through its 1Malaysia rhetoric, aimed at “fishing for non-bumiputera votes”, and stated that it is now displaying its true colours now that the election is over.
“This is Umno’s dirty tactic and BN’s chameleon-like nature, which can change its skin colour to adapt to favourable situations.”
He also questioned if other BN component parties - MCA, MIC, Gerakan and PPP - would come out to criticise the allegedly seditious remarks made by Musa.
"Will they remain the ‘yes-man’ as they always are and applaud such a speech?” he questioned.
“I am sure they would not react in this matter to protect their respective political interests.”
