Pertinent issues of national interest appear to escape Umno delegates during their annual general assembly (AGM) who instead chose in engage in self-interest and paranoia, said PKR vice president Nurul Izzah.

Weighing in on the Umno AGM which concluded yesterday, she said: "Umno is comfortable in its own cocoon and is unwilling to think of ways to develop the country holistically other than to consolidate power and wealth..."

She pointed out several outstanding issues ignored at the AGM, such as the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax and the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA).

"I did not see any (Umno) leaders or delegate raise the issue of TPPA that will 'colonise' the local economy including the Malay bumiputera's economy which was specifically debated on," said Nurul Izzah who is also Lembah Pantai MP.

NONE She added that the rising cost of living was also largely ignored and even Umno president Najib Abdul Razak ( left ) kept to his rhetoric in asking the rakyat to make sacrifices.

Likewise, Umno delegates were also oblivious to the deterioration of education in the country as shown in the recent Programme for International Student Assessment survey.

"What do parents think when Standard Five and Six children in Singapore, South Korea and Vietnam are on par with a Form 3 student in Malaysia?" she said.

Instead, she said Umno showed its paranoia with slogans of "1Malay".

"Clearly, the future of Malays and Malaysia will wither under Umno if it refuses national reconciliation to be inclusive in building a bright future," she said.
