Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Said had ‘raided’ two travelling bread delivery vans in order to distrubute the goods to hungry folk hit by the worst-ever flood to hit the east coast.

Sinar Harian reported that the incident, which highlights the desperate situation faced by flood victims, happened yesterday in Chendor while Ahmad was en route to Kemaman from Kuala Lumpur.

According to the daily, Ahmad had paid for the bread as he felt “pity” for those stranded and hungry, which included small children.

The Gardenia delivery vans were reportedly stranded due to the floods, but the drivers refused to distribute the bread.

“The drivers refused to do (distribute the bread), but Ahmad then told them to call their manager in Kuala Lumpur to inform the manager that he will buy all the bread.

“When an agreement was reached with the manager, Ahmad then opened the delivery truck and distributed the bread,” it reported.

More than 40,000 people have been hit by the floods, sending the authorities scrambling to provide aid.

Commenting on the matter, PAS Youth chief Suhaizan Kaiat, who was also in Pahang to distribute aid, said this shows that the situation is really dire.

“This shows that aid is slow to arrive, to the extent that people are starving. The question now is, will the Terengganu MB tell his people the real situation which forced him to ‘raid’ food supply?

“Whatever it may be, the story of flood victims starving is not something made up by the opposition,” he wrote on Facebook.
