Umno's weapons of choice still race and religion

VOXPOP 'Their immediate focus is on the self-benefit of their elite members... M'sians can expect misguided or no leadership in the issues facing the country.'

Umno general assembly a headlong plunge to the right

voxpop, voxFair Play: In truth, Umno is utterly frustrated with the rapid change in the social and political landscape in recent years. Since the days of their existence in 1946, never had they faced such challenges.

Worse, they really have no answers because they are still stuck in the time-warped politics of the old days. Perhaps for them what is even more frustrating and certainly a very bitter pill to swallow is the fact that the other communities are looking to PAS as their replacement in national politics.

The clearest indication of their impending self-destruction is the frequent use of race and religion as their weapons of choice to counter their enemies and to justify their continued existence.

To the well-informed rakyat, Umno is about to complete its gradual transformation from national politics (all inclusive) to partisan politics (all exclusive).

Mushiro: The Umno general assembly has come to pass. As expected, nothing good has come out from it. Umno has exposed their feelings which will not win the hearts of the majority of the Malays.

Their immediate focus is on the self-benefit of their elite members. Sadly nothing on the rising cost of living was mentioned. Malaysians can expect misguided or no leadership in the issues facing the country.

FactnotFiction: Let us learn from nature. If there is no stress factor, the plant will not bear fruit. Greenhouse plants do not thrive.

Boonpou: These Umno clowns are pathetic and desperate. Sad that Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and other sensible Umno members who are, in the midst of all these extremist calls, becoming the silent component within Umno. It shows the degree of desperation that has materialised in this increasingly racist party.

I am worried what would become of Malaysia if this hatred of the non-Malays continues unabated, even though the Malays that I personally know do not share such a manufactured fascist racist ideology.

The Malay friends I have grown up with since childhood are not these individuals portrayed by Umno. Where are you all? Why can't you speak up that Umno does not represent you?

Do you still believe in Umno, a party that is pathetically struggling to stay in power by polarising our society, by manufacturing racial hatred? Do your Umno party leaders' speeches and wavings of the keris represent you? Speak up, will you?

Anonymous #70881335: A government that only wants to represents 67 percent of the population cannot be good for the country. And the real percentage is probably much less if you take away the non-Muslim bumiputeras who certainly do not want Umno to represent them.

Shanandoah: Malay leaders are destroying the Malays by making them weak and believing in government handouts only.

Wira: The Chinese in 2008 gave the country that golden opportunity of alternative governments in Selangor, Perak and Penang to prove that clean novices can rule far better than the corrupt incumbents.

The Malays in Selangor followed through in 2013 to show the country that good governance ought to be rewarded. 2018 is the year when the voters of Sarawak and Sabah will show Umno their exit from Putrajaya.

Onyourtoes: Aidila, please get your facts right - this is a party that got nine seats more but increasingly relying on lesser number of votes from the rural population who contribute minimally to taxes and national development.

Rampa: Umno treats everybody fair? If it did then Umno and BN wouldn't have lost the popular vote in GE13. Malaysia is doomed to be a failed nation if this is how Umno is going to rule us. It's already sinking.

We need a Nelson Mandela in the near future to save this nation. Equal rights, regardless of race and religion is what we need. The more you talk about race and religion the more you will fail.

This is a reminder not just for Umno but for any party that keeps stressing these two factors. Malaysians please wake up.

MCA also ticks off Umno for racial remarks

Amateur: MCA education bureau chief Chong Sin Woon, are you kidding? Since when has BN practised meritocracy? Have you been hypnotised by Umno? Are you so obsessed by power struggles that you have lost your analytical mind?

Anonymous_4031: Wake up, MCA. Wake up, Gerakan. Wake up MIC. Wake up PPP. Wake up PBS. Wake up SUPP. Wake up PRS. Wake up, PKR. Wake up PAS. Wake up DAP. Wake up, all justice-minded, fair-minded Malaysians.

Listen to the late Nelson Mandela of South Africa: "I hate race discrimination most intensely and in all its manifestations. I have fought it all during my life; and I fight it now, and will do so until the end of my days. "

Will all political leaders of various hues fight race discrimination as the late Nelson Mandela did in South Africa against apartheid in the White regime? Stand up and be counted.

Premier Najib Abdul Razak must act now, not later, to fight race discrimination, apartheid-like in his own backyard. Will he be fair to all races, not to non-Malays alone on the following issues:

1. Act now on the 18-point and 20-point Agreements with Sarawak and Sabah; 2. Deputy prime ministership be given to a non-Malay; 3. Give vice-chancellorships in 18 universities to the best Malaysians. Do it.

Isana: Wayang time, wayang time (Putting on an act). When the corrupted fat cats leave town, the puny little mouse has suddenly found some courage to come out and squeak.

Anonymous_3e86: From Day One Umno has never cared what the other BN component parties had to say and it will continue to ignore what others have to say.

Perhaps now, after GE13, MCA's politicians have woken up and realised how they have been treated by Umno. But it's too late. Now Umno is BN and BN is Umno. The rest of the BN parties are mere spectators. Umno politicians have gotten bolder. They now openly say racist remarks without fear.

Sakit hati ku: Thank you MCA for your delayed action. MIC meanwhile is still zzzzz....

Vote BN out: You can criticise Umno for all they care, nothing is gonna change. Leave BN is my best advice.
