The main road from Paka to Kerteh in Kemaman has been closed to traffic after it was inundated by flood waters up to one metre high following heavy rain since early today.
National Security Council assistant secretary (information), Ahmad Redza Arshad said heavy rain since 2am around Dungun had caused flooding in some areas.
“Water from Bukit Bauk flowed down fast, causing the Paka-Kerteh main road at Durian Mentangau to be flooded and impassable to all traffic,” he told Bernama in Kemaman today.
Ahmad Redza said some areas in Marang and Hulu Terengganu were also inundated by flood waters up to a half metre high, and the residents were advised to be on the alert.
“At the moment, the flood waters are still at the alert level and no residents have been evacuated,” he added.
Meanwhile, Bernama’s attempt to cover Felda’s giving of aid to flood victims at the Felda Seberang Tayor land scheme in Air Putih, near Kemaman, was halted after the Chukai-Air Putih road became flooded.
Jalan Sungai Pinang leading to Kampung Sungai Pinang, near Kemaman town, is also flooded and passable only to heavy vehicles.
