The number of flood victims in Pahang rose slightly to 5,607 this morning from 5,376 last night.

There are still 1,398 families housed 71 evacuation centres from 69 areas in six districts in the state as at 8am, said Pahang Police Headquarters' Flood Operations Room spokesperson.

The Pekan district still has the highest number of flood victims at 3,501 in 37 evacuation centres followed by Kuantan (842 in five centres), Maran (735 in 13 centres), Temerloh (235 in seven centres), Bera (276 in seven centres) and Rompin (18 in two centres).

In TERENGGANU, the situation in flood-stricken areas has eased off with the number of evacuees reduced slightly from 3,424 from 718 families last night to 3,387 from 710 families this morning.

They were housed at 42 relief centres, namely 13 centres in Dungun, four (Hulu Terengganu), 22 (Kemaman) and three (Marang).

As the rain has stopped, it has brought a sigh of relief to flood victims and government agencies, said the National Security Council in its portal.

The number of flood victims remains unchanged in Dungun at 1,299 from 318 families, Hulu Terengganu (79 victims from 20 families) and Kemaman (1,946 from 354 families).

However, in Marang, the number of flood victims dropped from 100 from 26 families last night to 63 from 18 families this morning.

Meanwhile, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage reported that water level in major rivers in the state had returned to normal.

However, the Public Works Department reported that several roads were still inundated and closed to vehicles.

They were Pulau Kerengga/Pengkalan Berangan (Marang), Jalan Durian Mentangau (Dungun) and Jalan Matang/Nibong/Kuala Berang (Hulu Terengganu), apart from Jalan Kuala Berang/Tanggol/Kuala Kejir as certain stretches had collapsed.
