The Road Transport Department (JPJ) said today it was unaware that a lorry summoned by its officers for overloading was carrying goods for flood victims in Pahang.

NONEJPJ director-general Ismail Ahmad (left) said the driver did not at all mention that the goods were meant for flood victims in Pahang when he was stopped at the Gombak toll plaza in Selangor.

“The driver should have told the truth then instead of sensationalising the incident in the social media,” he told reporters after the closing of a JPJ programme in Tumpat.

JPJ officers had summoned the lorry driver and the company on Dec 7 for overloading the vehicle with goods such as clothing, blankets, rice, sugar, milk and flour. The driver was fined RM150 and the company RM450.

The news went viral on the social media, alleging that the JPJ had been brutal in summoning a lorry carrying goods meant for flood relief.

Ismail said JPJ was prepared to revoke the summons issued to the lorry driver and company to end the controversy.
