The new regulation prohibiting house owners from selling their properties for a stipulated period has cemented the notion that Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng is a dictator in the state, said an Umno leader.

Kepala Batas MP Reezal Merican Naina Merican said property ownership is perhaps the only way for the people to raise their living standard.

“It is their right to sell their properties with the aim of making a profit. This should not be prevented, nor should they be asked to appeal to the state government,” he added.

NONEReezal (right) was responding to the five- and 10-year moratorium imposed on the sale of houses worth RM400,000 and below as well as low-cost houses worth RM72,000 and below.

And those seeking to dispose of their properties before the moratorium ends must win the state government's permission.

Acknowledging that such housing rules are permitted, Reezal said this has been imposed for projects subsidised by the government.

“But what Lim has introduced is all encompassing and does not involve housing projects built with state government aid or subsidy,” he added.

The Umno MP also expressed disappointment with Lim for challenging the people of Penang to take the matter to court if dissatisfied.

“This is not an issue which concerns looking for legal remedies but rather the role and function of a chief minister and state government which must look after the interest of the people.

“Challenging the people to seek legal redress is a manifestation of arrogance and smacks of  a dictatorial attitude,” he added.
