The allegation that PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu is a Shiite follower is merely “political revenge” targeting Mat Sabu as well as PAS, its spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat says.

PAS organ Harakah Daily quoted Nik Aziz as saying that Umno was prepared to stir up new “propaganda” merely to tarnish the Islamic party’s name in the eyes of the public.

“If Umno leaders want to fight Shiism, why weren’t followers of the teaching, as reported in Kedah, arrested?” he asked.

 

He was also quoted as saying that Umno does not have any new ammunition to attack PAS and its leaders and has now resorted to this method.

NONE Meanwhile, Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud ( left ), the political secretary to DAP’s Gelang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang, has trained her guns on Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for urging Mat Sabu to prove his innocence over the allegations  levelled by Zahid’s own ministry.

“Dear minister, what happened to rule of law where one is innocent until proven guilty?” Dyana Sofya asked in a statement today.

“Zahid, who obviously thinks that he and his ministry, which clearly exceeded its legal authority, are above the law and by making a baseless accusation based on 10 pieces of Grade B evidence, are now trying instigate the nation by saying that Mat Sabu is a Shiite unless he is able to prove otherwise,” she said.

“Since when did this nation adopt a doctrine that a person is presumed guilty until he is proven innocent?” she asked.

Dyana Sofya also branded the whole accusation by Zahid and his ministry as a “tasteless, publicity gimmick”, which she said had denied the fundamental rights of a person.

“I suggest that the minister drop this issue, which is clearly to divert the nation’s attention from the rising cost of living, because it isn’t working - the people of Malaysia are upset and it is only making the nation a laughing stock,” she said.
