Shah Alam MP Khalid Abdul Samad has admonished the Selangor government and local authorities, as he claimed “red tape” was causing conflict to arise with developers.

Such conflicts was affecting the state’s development, he said, citing examples of two projects in his constituency - the construction of an alternative road to Padang Jawa and also of a furniture complex.

He urged the state government and local authorities must to administer the state smoothly, and at the same time, work together with the private sector.

“The relationship of the state government, local government, and developers must not be at loggerheads. They must work together.

“The state government can be a clean government without corruption, even though they are cooperating with the private sector,” Khalid said.

The furniture complex cited by Khalid is the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) along the Federal Highway. The IDCC was scheduled for completion by the end of 2013, but construction was allegedly delayed by the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA).

Complicating the problems

On the slip road in Padang Jawa, Khalid said that the state had allocated RM3.8 million to build the road from the township to Section 17 to reduce traffic congestion.

He said that the Seri Eratai Munishwarner Amman Hindu temple had agreed to sacrificing three acres of land for the project and it was supposed to begin early this year, but MBSA had allegedly imposed some conditions before construction could begin.

"But again it is because of red tape issues, MBSA do not want to do this project until all the paperwork is settled... The people still had to go through traffic jam everyday for one hour and this is a wastage of resources and time," he added.

"There are many more projects that faces problem in Shah Alam. I will let reveal it one by one."

He hoped that the MBSA would take cognisance of these issues and ensure there are no further delays.

"I want to let MBSA know that their key performance indicator (KPI) is to solve problems and not complicating them. This is to ensure the wellbeing of the people," he said.
