Taxpayers should be aware that the BN government discriminates against them, since it gives its MPs three times more funds than Pakatan MPs, an opposition MP said today.

Calling it an injustice that goes against the government's 1Malaysia campaign, DAP's Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching said that opposition-held constituencies in peninsula Malaysia get RM300,000 each and RM500,000 each was given to those in Sabah and Sarawak.

NONE However, constituencies held by BN representatives in the peninsula and in East Malaysia get special allocations of RM1 million and RM1.5 million respectively.

"Does this mean that Pakatan Rakyat backers can pay lower taxes, to match the lower allocations?" Teo asked in a statement.

She noted that the discrepancy was confirmed with a written reply in Parliament to her question to the Prime Minister's Department.

According to the reply, Teo said, the PM's Department said decisions on the allocations were jointly made by federal and state development units, based on "existing guidelines and financial procedures".

She said she did not get an answer to another question on why her constituency Kulai, which comes under the BN-run state of Johor, also got a lower allocation.

Teo went on to urge non-governmental organisations to write in to pressure the government to unlock more of these public funds for the benefit of the people.

Parti Sosialis Malaysia's Sungai Siput MP Dr Jeyakumar Devaraj had sued the government for withholding funds to his constituency after he wrestled the seat from former MIC president S Samy Vellu in the 2008 general election.
