'Confused' Ridhuan Tee warns Umno of backlash

Peacemaker: Professor Ridhuan Tee Chuan Seng should be applauded for getting things right this once, but only just so. He thinks that only Umno-minded Malays pay tolls while others ride the highways for free.

Raising the caution of offending Malays with the BN government's coming toll increases simply betrays his narrow-minded vision of the Malaysian landscape. This man teaches in a university too. Oh my God.

Rightan: Why must he interpret everything in terms of race? Don't toll increases affect just about everybody? You mean to say if it affects non-Malays only, then it is okay?

Armchair Newspaper: Ridhuan, your protestation is racially slanted. The toll hike, etc, will affect all, especially the poorer folk, not just Malays.

Poverty does not prefer one race alone. And ignorance and bigotry are not the exclusive domain of one race.

You, Mr Tee, are proof of that tested theory - there are many smart Chinese academicians and scholars, but not every Chinese Muslim convert is like you.

Cala: Surprise, surprise. How can Ridhuan Tee be that ignorant? There are several reasons that explain the impending rise of toll fares. Only two are being considered here.

First, James Buchanan, a Nobel Prize winner had long ago predicted the behaviour of bureaucrats and politicians in his "public choice theory" that private interests prevail over public interests, even on matters of public goods. It is hardly a surprise that rent-seekers are allowed to roam the town freely.

Second, in the absence of an effective two-party system, how can the Umno-led BN regime be constrained? In effect, Malaysia is being run as an elitist state.

An elitist state is one where the leaders are not selected by voters (you and me), but by a handful of party warlords. The change of leaders is through struggle and infighting in the party, something beyond the control of ordinary people, and of course the road-users too.

Awakened: Ridhuan is not only confused with why the BN government will be raising tolls charges, he is also confused whether he is a Malay or Chinese. He thinks that by changing his religion and name, he becomes a Malay.

He seems not to care about the feelings of non-Malays and even confuses himself with 1Malaysia. He is really a confused person, and I wonder why his university still continues to employ him as a professor.

Cmfoo: Ridhuan is a confused man indeed - born a Chinese but is claiming to be a Malay and allegedly copying someone else's thesis claiming to be his own work.

He is supposedly 'highly' educated but is now only beginning to realise, if at all, the deceit of Umno-BN. It’s time to wake up.

The BN government is going to lose the support of all the people, not just the Malays. You call yourself a professor when you can't even evaluate the problem.

This calamity has always afflicted saudara Tee, almost from the day he was born or at least from the time he realised to his horror that he was indeed a Chinaman and not a Malay.

So what is his newfound criticism of government policies in aid of, despite his "worry of Umno's fate in the next general election"?

Is it to show the rest of the country, after the additional doses of derision he had earned when his plagiarism tendencies were highlighted, that his head is screwed on right and that he is actually a nice guy, even if not particularly intelligent?

Perhaps someone could clarify two things for the benefit of the uninitiated - firstly, why Sinar Harian continues to publish his column. For comic relief in these trying days? Secondly, why does he keep referring to himself as a Malay. Now that has got me confused.

James_3392: The increase in fuel, sugar, tolls, assessment rates, power tariffs, public transport, GST (goods and services tax), etc - all to be implemented within a short period of time - is risking disastrous consequences in the macro-economy perspective.

It may even result in social and political instability, thus running counter to the noble objective of fiscal or economic reforms. No economist or policy maker with the right frame of mind will contemplate such a drastic policy.

Could it be our national financial affairs are far worse than what is known to the public, including the likes of this Umno professor?

Bamboo: Is this constitutional Malay doing some constitutional Malay's bidding to pull down PM Najib Razak?

1Citizen: Let's not get personal. At least he has the guts to say these things, whatever his motives. He can be a Malay as defined by the constitution, check it out. Whatever he is, do you agree with him or not?
