Dec 31 rally organisers to bring grenades, claim cops

CiViC: How is it possible for the police to issue such statement with direct implication on these named organisations without any solid proof?

 

How in the world did PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police) link all these different organisations - Kumpulan Gerakan Turun Kos Sara Hidup (Turun), Jingga 13, Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia and Solidariti Mahasiswa Malaysia - together with the alleged threat?

 

Isn't this abuse of power, and I may not be knowledgeable in the law, but this sounds more like criminal intimidation.

Honestly? Did we hear correctly a very senior police officer said that - protestors are bringing in hand grenades on New Year's Eve? Anyone of you believe that? Nay!

 

The police are going from bad to worse - in lying to the public that is. The credibility of the police is all-time low since the time of the last two Bersih rallies.

 

Actually it is to the interest of the police that they have to have the confidence of the public believing in their public statements; otherwise in all future dealings with public nobody will ever believe and trust them. The police have cried 'wolf' too many times.

Gas masks, I can understand because it is likely that they would be subjected to chemical laced water cannon and tear gas from your side but grenades?

Louis: Amar Singh, please tell a more intelligent lie. If you say that the demonstrators bring gas masks, we will believe you. But when you said that they are bringing grenades, you have stretched your fairy tale beyond belief.

 

The police need not arrest those grenade-bearing demonstrators on the day in question. They could be arrested immediately and be charged right away. The public will be very grateful to the police for nabbing the culprits before they could use the grenades.

 

Apa Ini?: The only people with a vested interest in chaos are the BN agents and their supporters. Watch out for the agent provocateurs, folks, not least from among the uniformed ones. Remember Bersih 3.0.

 

Samurai: Ordinary Malaysians protesting unfair price hikes are made to look like terrorists? Please, these modus operandi - weapons, intimidation, plotting, anarchy - these are all traits of the real gangsters in power, the ruling elite and their proven supporters.

There is proof aplenty of their violent ways. However, KL112 was clear proof that the ordinary people can assemble and protest peacefully. So who is out to create chaos?

So much for police 'intelligence'.

 

Pemerhati: Normally the IGP (inspector-general of police) comes on TV to get some cheap publicity and tell his cock-and-bull stories. But this time he has sent his lower rank Amar Singh to tell lies on behalf of the police.

 

This could be because the IGP has realised that since he was caught lying in the Aminulrasyid Amzah's shooting case, he has very little credibility and most people won't buy the police's outrageous lies about the grenades and the police's cooked-up story about the plot to topple the government.

 

He probably thought that since there is another Singh (Karpal), who is known for his credibility and has not been caught telling lies, perhaps the people might think that another Singh may also be like Karpal and hence might believe the outrageous lies of the police.

 

But the reputation of the police now is so bad that even if the Pope were to wear the Malaysian police uniform and speak the truth, the people are unlikely to believe him. If any grenades are found they would almost certainly have been planted by the police.

 

Whatif: If I had wanted to create trouble, I would not do it when all those supporting the cause are around. It just does not make sense.

 

Ann: Remember the reformasi activists who were detained in 2001 for allegedly conspiring to violently overthrow the elected government and who were accused of taking steps to obtain explosive material and weapons such as bombs and grenade launchers?

 

Did the authorities ever prove the charges after the activists were detained? Why not?

 

Iiiizzzziiii: This is the beginning of the end for the present government, which has totally lost the plot by the engaging the police to make wild accusation and statement.

 

Clearly, this is an act of intimation by the law enforcement agency whose very job is to serve and protect the people, but now has actively engaged in propaganda.

 

These are the very people who have had taken an oath to serve and uphold justice. If you cannot trust the law enforcement agency, who can you trust?

 

Astounded: This is unbelievable. Where would these people be getting their grenades from? The PDRM by their inability to be impartial and professional and by their stupid statements shows that it is overdue for an overhaul. Nobody trusts the police anymore.

 

Yeoke: This is one of the most ridiculous statements I ever heard from Malaysian police. It's too obvious the police have been taking instructions from Umno politicians.

 

James1067: The organisers are there to sent a strong signal to the government on the behalf of all decent, honest, hard-working tax-paying Malaysians.

 

They are taking the trouble, time and risks to fight for the many decent honest police personnel who find it difficult to provide food and clothing's for their families.

 

The only people frightened will be the ones guilty of plundering the Treasury and letting the public pay for their crimes.

 

Secondly, the public have no faith or trust in the words of the police force and the decent thing to do is to support their cause and help to make the assembly a peaceful one.

 

Siang Malam: Why can't the police be neutral and just do their work to control the traffic flow and manage peace at the rally? Why must the Malaysian police stoop so low to get itself involved in bipartisan politics and create unnecessary rumours?

 

Why can't the Malaysian police be professional? You are making yourself look silly and stupid and embarrassing the entire police force.
